“Every fisherman there’s an equally sound fishwife”.
Taking a dive into the fishing industry, predominately male dominated, with a womenswear direction. History showcased the leading role and importance of being a fisherwoman, albeit the insulting and derogatory reference of being named a ‘fisherman’s wife’. With trends of fish hunting, I wondered how is humour and joy present in horror? Perhaps slaughter somehow also relates to the over-sexualisation of women. Specifically looking at an altered perception in wrinkles. Wrinkles show ageing and are deemed undesirable, far less sexualised than the wrinkles that appear from wet drape and cloth against the body. I used subtraction pattern cutting to create various draping that drags, twists and suffocates. A womenswear oilskin and leather jacket, that questions how heavy is ‘The weight of our own skin’?.
